In recent
years more members have changed to taking their stereo pictures
digitally. This has led to a decline in the number of slides being
entered into the competition and an increase in the number of prints
submitted. Last year we trialled a photo journalism award where the
entry had to be submitted digitally. This year, alongside the prints,
slides and photo journalism there will be a fourth category for digital
images. Members will be invited to submit up to four digital images
either by a non-returnable CD or by e-mail. A further four digital
images may be submitted for the photo journalism award, and members will
also be invited to add a comment on the relevance of these images to our
current world.
There will still be print and slide categories, but the
slides will no longer be in separate A and B categories, and with prints
it will not be possible to enter both this and the digital category.
This year Barry Aldous converted all the submitted
prints to a digital form for the shows at Coventry and London, while at
the Leeds meeting both the slide and print entries were presented in
digital form. This resulted in much brighter images, and for the first
time the prints were not confined to a rushed viewing during the
interval. Barry has kindly agreed to convert the prints and slides into
a digital form for all the competition shows next year.
This year the application form for the competition is
available here Such
entries would receive an acknowledgement and the results by e-mail.
However a copy of the entry form will also be sent out with the
membership renewal subscriptions at the beginning of January 2010. No
entry form will be sent with the magazine this year, as this would add
significantly to the cost of postage.
The closing date for entry is January 31st
as usual. It has been my experience that although the entry forms have
gone out long before Christmas, nearly all entries are received in the
last month. If you have any comments on these changes please contact me
by e-mail (stereocompetition@cotsford.co.uk
or telephone 0208 715 2148).
